Just another crazy day-Day 24!

WOW!I cannot believe it that I have lasted this long, this time..I am actually looking forward to writing daily blog-posts now.And its heartening to see so many visitors on the blog ๐Ÿ™‚ And I would love to hear from more of you..so please take a minute and leave me a comment.

Today SD was playing cricket so he brought the girls to my work place and then we went to drop him off at his cricket ground. After that,we decided to have a girls’ day out.So we came back to the town center, had lunch and then went to see Santa.I was worried about Nanhi’s reaction but she is coolest 16 mo ever! She walked up to Santa on her own..and had a little chat with him and then refused to leave!!

With great difficulty I managed to take her away from there..then we went to the library where both the sisters decided that they wanted to take the library home. While I was trying to get them to put the books back on the shelves,my sister called outraged about something my dad said..So there I was directing the girls, trying to be stern, and she was yelling on the phone and I had to ask her to hold the line.I hung up,got the girls to pick 5(Aadi) and 3(Nanhi) books and we left to pick up school snacks etc from Aldi.

And that is where Ananya decided to throw crocodile-roll tantrums! There she was in her beautiful white dress, rolling on the floor, because I didn’t let her open the packet of Tiny teddies..And just my luck to run into people,I know from work!! First two times,I tried to pick her up,only for her to start thrashing..So the third time,I stood next to her and pretended to laugh and the cheeky monkey did the same thing..forgot about the tantrum.ย

Today,I was thankful that I am person with Mammoth sized patience..LOL! And my kids should be glad that I am their mother.LOL!No seriously..a lesser mortal would’ve lost it!! Heck even I was so close to losing it,today!

After the crocodile roll tantrums,we came home, put the airconditioner on and feasted on some mini ice-creams.I love those only 100 cals each. And we made Kulfis! Will tell you tomorrow how it turns out!

Over and out for today..

Did you think I forgot to write a post today?-Day 23

No I didn’t ๐Ÿ™‚
Ms.Ananya turned 16 months today..I know I have said it before but I can’t help it..how quickly time has flown. Today at lunch time,I watched her eat her Roti and yogurt, picking up each piece daintily. Her face was a mess and so was her vest, but, she is just not a little baby anymore. Everyday, she learns something new, teaches us something new.
Today, she opened the fridge and said more..she was hungry! She told me that..in her own special way! I gave her some strawberries and she was happy.
Tonight I went out for dinner-My first official dinner.I was sick.I used my inhaler every hour, even took a nap.B.U.T. I was really looking forward to this dinner and didn’t want to miss it. I got a chance to dress up like a normal person, not worrying about whether the top is breast-feeding friendly or not. I did my hair and even put some make up on..:) Its amazing how simple things make you feel so good. And you know what was the best part of the evening- Getting to eat my food without someone climbing over me,little hands reaching in my plate or a little body balanced on my leg. I am sure a lot of moms will nod at this one ๐Ÿ™‚ And taking a cue from Retromummy I leave you with a pic of me with my girls..Putting the mom back in the picture:)

Have a good weekend everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

Mum of two-Day 20

Yes,by now its well established that I am mum of two.:) SD was home and Ms. Ananya had a cold and fever(she is cutting a new tooth!).So I left her home with him for school pick up.And at least 4 people asked me where she was.Forget about others,I felt weird walking with just one.

After school,we went grocery shopping-Aadya and I . Since Ananya came along,I can count the occasions on my finger-tips,when I went out without her.But having just one of them,on the grocery run made it so much easier.I found everything I needed from three stores and in less than 1 hour,we were done. Aadya had my full attention and so she didn’t mind walking around, because it was our special time. I only forgot the mayonnaise. Not bad,eh?

We came home from shopping and Ananya’s excitement at seeing us..Awww..it was so cute. She came to the door and I tried to pick her up,she pushed me away and followed her sister to their room..They cuddled and chattered on.And then, there was silence. One was on the bed lying down-tired from all the walking ย and the other was sitting on the floor, pretending to read a book.ย

Being a mum of two means its your job to break their fights-it doesn’t matter if they are 4.5 years apart. It is also your job to make sure you give them both the same of everything..even if they are 4.5 years apart. *smiles* But it also means that you get double the love, double the cuddles, double the kisses.. double of everything.ย

They were trying out a new snack and I asked Nanhi to give me a taste. She said No! (No is her favorite word! She says No,when she wants to No;she says No,when she wants to say yes) Aadi offered me hers and immediately this monkey offered hers too.ย

I was in the kitchen and Nanhi came running and grabbed my knees.I said,”I love you,Nanhi”,Ummmah she replied..and piped another voice..”Mumma do you love me also? “..”Yes I do baby..I love you,Aadi”,I replied…Ummmmahhhhhhh Ummmaahhhhhhhh.. See double of everything!

My days are crazy..my night are sleepless, but I love every moment of my crazy life as a mum of two..If I have another life,I’d happily chose this crazy chaotic mush, over any thing else in the world..:)

Inspiration prompt-Day 19

The seasons are changing – do you look forward to this time of year? What’s your favorite season?.
Plinky.com

I couldn’t think of anything exciting to write today and so I took the WP prompt. My favorite season without a doubt is Spring.I love the new leaves and the sudden burst of color, all around.Though..the allergies make me feel horrible..But,I enjoy looking out the window..The color of fresh green leaves, fills me with so much enthusiasm and joy,its hard to describe.

My next favorite season would have to be summer..despite the heat.I love it for the fact that I don’t have to wear ten layers to be comfortable. The warm weather is my favorite time of the year for walks and exercise. And the colorful clothes in shops and on people..gladdens my heart.I HEART Color..and seeing almost everyone in colors other than solids, makes me so cheerful…

Now mandatory post done with..I am off to finish some crafting..before Ms.Anan wakes up.She has a cold and fever..so I am not really looking forward to the night:(

Of Banamas and other happenings today.. Day 18

This morning Ananya took a Banana to SD and said Banama, over and over again till he didn’t make the connection. He asked her do you want to eat a banana and she beamed..Banama!Banama!!
Its sounds so cute!
After swimming we went to the grocery store.Without any words, the girls reached out for our hands-Aadi took mine and Nanhi took SD’s and we walked into the store-SD&Nanhi leading. Then Ananya turned back, reached for my free hand and said come!Gosh!how does she know all this?
SD reached for a basket and so did she. She insisted on holding a basket and walking. Aadi and I walked with her, while SD finished the actual shopping. We stopped at the freezers and Aadya was reading labels, pointing at the things and monkey Ananya copied her sister, stopping and pointing at everything and babbling.
When I made sweets for her classmates,Aadya tasted one and said..”Mum,when Ananya is a little older and you can send her to a daycare,I want you to start your own dessert cafe business from home.” Awww..my baby!! How does she know my heart’s desires so well..?I said ok,we’ll think about it.
Today, she wanted to eat a hot dog. So,we go sausages and hot dog buns and I made sausages for her at home and she took two bites and said..”Wow!Mum,this is even better than the shop…you should really start that cafe..” When I said,OK..she asked me to come and sit next to her so we could discuss a name for the business.
It is so sweet to hear Ananya’s babbles and Aadya’s indulgent big sister giggles. When did Aadi grow up so much?Lately,I have been wondering about this a lot.She is using such big words- “Mum you are a gracious mum” “Some of the kids were being naughty,so unfortunately we missed on some treat..” “Our toddler is so this,so that..I am so proud of her.”

My little imp,my princess,my mind readers,my heart beats…my little munchkins… Love them to bits..

Run,run,run… Day 16

‘Run,run,run’these three words,describe my day today..and I can’t believe how I got through it..
My day started at 6:30 am..I woke up to the chirping birds today. And 5 minutes after I woke up,so did Ms.Ananya ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes she has an alert system!
10 minutes later,Ms.Aadya woke up..I think she has an alert system too.
Then there was drama-Anan wanted a feed,Aadi wanted a cuddle and I just wanted some more sleep. So,Anan fed,Aadi sulked and I..well,I just tried to stay awake and patient.
Anan fed,Aadya cuddled and we got out of bed,by 7:30 am.And the usual run around started-getting them ready and fed and rushing out the door by 8:30am.
After school drop-off,I headed out for my workout-finished that, went to the Toy Library to collect the chairs for our Diwali party tomorrow, got back home by 11:00am.
Cooked breakfast &tea-fed Anan&self. While I was eating, the cleaner called..and I had to go pick her up.Came back by 1:15pm-Started cleaning with the cleaner-I can’t sit and watch when someone else is cleaning.
2:40pm-shower& headed off to pick up Aadya.
3:15-came home, got Aadi changed and headed out to the park for a b’day party.
Poor Ananya had only had two 10 minute naps,by then and was so tired and sleepy. I put her in the pram and walked around during the first half of the party. The second half-carried her around and then chased her.
5:20pm-came home-folded laundry,sorted the pantry.cooked dinner-Pasta.
7:15pm-went to the temple, fed the girls in the car.
8:30pm-Went for a facial(SD stayed home with the girls!) I almost cancelled the facial..but I figured I deserved it,after the day I had had.The only time I sat down, was when I was driving or feeding Anan.

The facial was nice,relaxing..and the day is over. And I am not working tomorrow!!So,hopefully I can stay in bed a little longer.
Have a good weekend,everyone!

Easiest coconut laddus

My friend Vasu and her husband Sanjay host the best Diwali parties that I know of.Their attention to detail always floors me.Everything from menu to home decor, outfits, gifts is so well planned. What I like best about their ideas is Simplicity and the ease of it.So,when Vasu shared this recipe,by the way,all credits of which go to Sanjay,I had to try it.

Ingredients:
Dry desiccated coconut about 250-300 gms
Condensed milk -200 mL can
Food color-optional

Take condensed milk and desiccated coconut in a mixing bowl.Combine till lumpy. Form balls, roll the balls in dry coconut.Serve.
Optional: coat the balls in crushed nuts.

What I liked best about this recipe was- there was no cooking involved. And there was no measurement involved.I am more of an eyeball cook.I just add a dash of this,a dash of that,a pinch of this and usually never bother to measure…unless when I want to share recipes here.
If you haven’t tried this recipe you must…I promise you,it will become your go to recipe.I made the first batch this morning for Aadya’s class.
SD and Aadi loved it.I just finished making another batch in 25 mins…how cool is that!

Diwali day -Day 13!

Because I was too tired to post yesterday..I am trying to make up for it,with pics:)

Imageย Lakshmi Pooja set up
There are so many precious things on this Puja table!

The Golden cloth you see-that was my Bridal stole-specially designed for the occasion and handmade by the girl who applied my bridal mehendi.

The Blue cloth is another favorite Dupatta-never used, except to grace the prayer table.ย

The lamp on the left-is a gift from my mother-in-law.One of her students gave it to her and she passed it on to me,knowing my love of brass lamps.

The lamp on the right- was gift from one of my dad’s client. It’s a part of the pair..and my mum always said, that she would give one to each of her daughters. When I got married, dad gave it to me,as a part of the wedding presents.

The copper vessels- again a part of the wedding presents..traditional gifts given by a father to his daughter, when she gets married.

All these things in the same photograph, make it my favorite photo now:)

aah the joy of sparklers..Ms.Ananya learns from watching her sister.I have to tell you though..for the first two days, all she was interested in was trying to taste the sparks! By the third day..she knew the drill and I could leave her alone for 2 secs to take a picture!

Hope you had a wonderful, lit up Diwali too!

Aadya talks and Karanji Recipe-Day 12

Over the last few days,Ms.Aadya has been dropping some pearls of wisdom and I have to write them here,so I don’t forget!
She calls Ananya,”Tup-Tup”..before the last school holidays,Ananya was quite sick and had lost a lot of weight. Her chubby cheeks were gone and she had turned pale.Anyway, after the holidays,we managed to bring back the cheeks and a bit of color on her face and on one of the last days,I noticed it and before SD or I could comment on it,Aadi said,”Mom,Anani looks like Tup Tup again!” So yeah..she calls her sister tup-tup!
Yesterday morning,as I was warming milk for her-
A-“Mum,can you please make sure there is no Rus Mol?”
Me- Whats Rus Mol?
A- Oh you know the white blanket that forms on the milk after its been warmed!
Me-Speechless!! (I am guessing she made the Malai(cream) and Ras Malai connection)

On Dhan Teras day,we explained to her,we can’t go out to eat after swimming, because we are not supposed to spend money on that day.On the way back from swimming,
A: Mum,can we go out to eat?I am hungry.
Me: Remember we told you,we can’t spend any money today.
A: ohh then lets use the card!
Me:LOL!then I tell her, card is money too.. and how we need to put money in a bank to use it as a card.
A:Ok..
Five minutes later,
A:Mommmmm,do we need money to go to Maccas?
Me: yes,baby..whatever we eat outside, costs money.
By which time,we are near the mall..she tried again..
A:Can we go into the mall and get the juice that I LOVEE?
Me:Remember no spending..
A:So what happens if you spend today?
SD:You lose your money..
A:hmm..too bad..all those people whose cars are parked there, don’t know any better..Should we go inside and tell them..to not spend any money?
SD&I:NO!
A:Ok Ok..I am just asking..would you like it if Ananya and I shout at you like that??

And when you finish laughing, here’s the recipe for you:)

Karanji

For the shell:
Take all the ingredients except water in a bowl and knead it into a soft pliable dough, adding little quantities of water.Cover with a wet paper-towel and keep aside.
