Tonight,I couldn’t think of anything interesting to write about.I went through my photo albums to see,if I could post something interesting..then,I went into the blog archives to see what we were doing at this time,last year.I found this post and I thought..wow..this is perfect..I know what I want to write about.
Last year at this time,we had managed to move Aadi out to her room.I turned the study into her room,simply because it is across the hall from our room..It worked for a while..and then she came back to our bed.We tried again..she would sleep in her bed for some days and then move back into ours..And then the India trip happenned and she just moved back in our bed,like permanently.
So,this time,instead of moving her out,we moved her into our room..actually,we moved her bed in our room..and everyone was excited..She slept in her bed for 3 nights..we were happy..patted each other’s backs..and then..the next day,she crept in our bed..and again..and again.
And…..
Now…..
DH has moved to that bed and She sleeps with ME on the big bed!!!*rolling eyes*
And when she wakes up and finds me on DH’s side or him sleeping next to me..the brat demands,”aap dono kya kar rahe ho?”[What are you guys doing?] OR “papa why did you come to our bed..come on,be a big boy and go sleep on your bed”.
The baby sister..ummm I dont think she is going to get here anytime soon!!:P

Broccoli Cheddar Soup
The name itself is enough to make me salivate. I first tasted this soup in Dallas at our local Quizno’s and it immediately moved up in my list of soups.I tasted it again at Subway and also in some cafes.I attempted making this from soup mixes and i t tasted fine.Today,when I am sick at home,I felt like having this ..I wanted the same taste!! Yes,I am crazy like that..
Anyway,I found this recipe but,didn’t have everything at home..So,I innovated..(umm whats new? )
You like?? Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients:
2 tsp butter
1 small onion diced
1/2 clove garlic,fine chopped,
3/4 cup broccoli,chopped fine
1&1/4 cup milk
2 cups water
3 tbsp whole wheat flour
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
Melt butter in a pot,add onion and fry till softened.Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.Stir in the broccoli and add salt,as per taste.Add the water and bring it to boil,till the broccoli,turns tender.
In a bowl,whisk the flour into the milk.Stir into the soup,stirring intermittently.When the soup starts to bubble,lower the flame and stir in the cheese.At this point,check the salt and add some,if required.Add the pepper.
This is a very good meal,even for little ones,though you might want to run it through the blender to mash the vegetable bits..for early solid eaters:D
Ms.Aadya used to love this soup,when she was a baby..I was worried,if she will eat it now.And it turns out,she loved it! Yayyy I am soo happy.
A first- Post 18
Its been two months since Aadya started school and today for the first time,I spent some time alone at home.What a pity,I was sick .
By the time,DH got home yesterday,I was burning up.He brought Meds from the pharmacy and I took the first dose and was out at 9.00 PM!Even before Ms.Aadya.When I woke up in this morning,there were 10 hammers going on inside my head.It hurt to even breath.I asked DH to take the day off..but,the word OFF doesn’t exist in his dictionary.But,he offered to take half day off.so he could drop and pick Aadi from school..He picked her up,one hour early and then left for work.I got some rest.
But it was soo weird,being at home,without the noise,that is Aadya:D
Another first was me napping midmorning on the couch! I had forgotten how nice it feels!!hehehe..
This week got over so fast and weekend is here..nicee!Me like!
I am hoping it doesn’t rain this weekend..the garden and the backyard,need tending to.I am sick of seeing the weeds..
BTW,I found this Easy-peasy recipe for Broccoli-Cheddar soup on allrecipes.com . Its on the stove now,as I type this post.I just replaced the garlic powder with fresh crushed garlic and chicken broth with water,because,I didn’t have these things at home.This used to be my favorite at Quizno’s and Subway,when we were at Dallas and Ms.Aadya who had just started solids then,loveddddddd it!!I am hoping,this picky eater,who is the resident Diva now,likes it too..:)

In other news,I am still nursing a cold and its now turned into a full blown viral infection..:( Today seems like the longest day,if only the headache will go away..Aadi is glued to the TV..watching spiderman and then some cartoons..since morning!!but its ok,atleast i am getting some rest.
Ohh speaking of TV,she woke up this morning..singing,”Ohh my stripper soniye,Aha aha..” ,when i asked her,whose song is it..she goes, its my FAvorite song..this one and meri duniya from hey baby!!

Happy Day-Post 15
Its my sister’s birthday today..and No,Tuku is not the name that my parents gave her.It is the name that our resident Diva gave her.She started calling her Tuku masi but lovingly calls her Tuku!
And she gets soo mad,if I call her Tuku..”Don’t call her Tuku..she is myyy Tuku”. Today,when I wished her,on Skype,Ms.Aadya refused to wish her..why you ask?She was upset..that Mumma said,Happy birthday Tuku!
I pretended to whisper secrets on the webcam..and TukuTrups whispered them back to me,that got the li’l imp curious and she asked,”Tuku,Aap Mumma ko kya bata rahe ho?”[Tuku,what are u telling mumma?].hehehe..
Rest of the day wasn’t as exciting 🙂 We went out with one of my School Mom friends.I am helping her with her elder son’s fancy dress costume.So much fun na!The theme for the fancy dress is “Garden”. I picked up some yarn for one of my commissioned project for a 3 year old.
My throat feels funny and I miss my mommy.I want to her chicken soup or tomato soup..And no..its no fun,when I make it myself.The only person,who can make the soup taste anywhere close to my mom’s,is my Masi..but she is not here too..so,I thought,asked GM for suggestions..and then,finally innovated.
It turned out alright..To go with it,made some whole wheat bread sticks..they turned out nice..only,some more salt,wouldn’t have hurt.
Ohh Speaking of Birthdays,today is also my Aaji’s (grandma) birthday.So many years ago,it was Aaji’s 50th birthday and my mom was heavily pregnant.Her kids decided to celebrate this milestone birthday,in a grand way.A party was organised..everyone was excited.That morning,my G’pa went to the bathroom and slipped on the steps..and sprained his ankle. While they were attending to him,my mom went into labour and my uncle rushed her to the hospital.My aunt went to check on her sister(my mom) and was told that the baby wasn’t there yet..and to come back after 2 hours..and funnily the baby was already there and there was some misunderstanding. It was a crazy busyy day and my Aaji says,that was the day,she realised,that she has to take the backseat from that day onwards.And though she doesn’t say it,I know,Trups is her most favorite grandie!Happy birthday,Aaji. And you can never take the back seat…you are a star! Which other grandmother,is more upto date with current affairs,than the rest of her family? You are the smartest,most talented person,I know of and I am proud to have inherited those crafty genes from you..love you,Aaji!

No frills cake
It was DH’s birthday on the 10th of June and he wanted a simple no frill cake.I tried to tempt him,”Black Forest??” He didn’t budge..So,I just did what he asked..:P
The Cake was Vanilla sponge ,made from this recipe.The filling was sweet light thickened cream and chocolate shavings.The frosting was buttercream..and the cake was garnished with chocolate shavings.
Last month,I baked about 35 cupcakes for a friend’s daughter’s 5th birthday celebrationg in school.She wanted chocolate cupcakes with white icing..I was looking for a buttercream recipe that worked..thats when I hopped across several blogs and a basic recipe for buttercream,stayed in my mind.I didn’t try it that time..but this time,I decided to give it a go..
Here’s the recipe for buttercream frosting-
Ingredients:
1 part salted butter(softened)
1 part unsalted butter (softened)
2 parts of icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence.
3-4 tsps milk.
Make sure the butter is soft and at room temperature.Cream the salted and unsalted butter..,add the vanilla essence.add the icing sugar slowly,adding milk ,one tsp at a time..And that’s it..you have the softest,fluffiest butter frosting ready!
