Lost and gained and losing

Today,I checked my weight-loss diaries. After Ananya’s birth in July 2011,I started my weight-loss journey seriously, like my life depended on it.I started off with just eating good home cooked meals.By the time Anan turned two-three months,I tried to cut out almost all the processed food that I could with the exception of bread.
In January 2012,I signed up for Michelle Bridges 12 Week Body Transformation. And I started exercising. I signed for the next  round of 12 WBT,when the first finished and didn’t really use it. But I kept walking and exercising and at the end of the year,by August 2013,I had lost a total of 24.5kgs.
I felt good about myself,I dropped dress sizes and lost so many cms.And then, something went off,and the kilos started to creep back in..I realised today, that I have gained back,13 kgs back…I have undone so much of my hard work. And I am so so mad at myself. But,I am so determined to shed these 13 kgs and then some to get to my goal weight.
I did it before and I KNOW I can do it again. I just have to keep at it.A couple of days back, I was whinging to SD about it,he said,”I am not worried about you losing weight..I know you can do it and you WILL do it.You just need to find ways to maintain it.” And you know what? For once,I am not going to argue with him, because he is right.
So,I have decided,no more fad diets for me.I have come to realise, that fad diets or restrictive diets make me binge. And besides, its not something that I can stick to for long. So,all I am doing now is going back to basics- Cooking and eating wholesome food. Moving more..I am still struggling to fit in any exercise..hopefully I will be able to add it to my days soon.
Anyway,Tonight’s dinner was toasted paneer rolls. I will post the recipe in a day or two.For now, feast your eyes on the photo 🙂 I can assure this healthy meal is so delicious,it almost feels like a cheat meal 😀  And that is one of my goals- to eat healthy flavorful meals. That’s the only way to stop myself from Binge-ing  and to stick to the diet  adapt a new lifestyle.

Almost spring…

Its a beautiful day today, filled with warm sunshine. And what better day to share these birdies with you.

The pattern for the birds came from here..I love love Lucy’s patterns. They are so fun to make and easy to follow.

I made these for my Facebook store, which by the way,has a new name now. Image

What do you think? A Little story about the new name 🙂

Now most of you must have guessed that the name is a blend of both my girls names…I tried various combinations..but Anadya had a nice ring to it.A lot of time,in a confused state,I’ve yelled out Anadya..when the girls are upto something funny.

And then,Aunty Google sent another interesting tid-bit my way.I found out that Anadya is a Nigerian name and it means ‘Her father’s daughter’… and then there was no looking back..I couldn’t have picked another name 🙂

Anyway,so that’s the story behind the name..I am busy trying to get ready for a market in October.Yes!I want to try it again…fingers crossed this one is better than the previous ones. I’ll keep you posted.

Please leave me a comment and tell me how you are doing..:)

xoxo

Happy Rakshabandhan 2013

Here’s wishing a very happy Rakshabandhan to all the brothers and sisters across the world.

‘Rakhi’ is a big deal in our household. When I was a kid, my sister and I used to tie ‘Rakhis’  to each other, along with all our cousins and ‘Rakhi’ brothers. When we grew up, we started tying the ‘rakhi’ to our dad.
When my first daughter was born,we started this tradition in our home. I made two ‘rakhis’ and tied one(on her behalf) to hubby and the other to the Bal Krishna idol in our pooja room. A few years later, when her sister came along, I made them both tie ‘rakhis’ to their dad and to each other. It’s just a lovely celebration.  So,when Preethi asked me, if I wanted to do a craft or a recipe post for Rakshabandhan, I jumped at it.
Every year, Rakhi making is a big part of the celebration. This year we started with :

  • A bunch of assorted ribbons
  • Glue
  • Assorted ornaments to decorate the ribbons(pompoms, buttons, etc.)

And this is what we came up with :

Can you guess which one was made by the very crafty 6 year old?

Now for the sweet. Today, I share with you a recipe of my favorite Chocolate Burfi. Anyone else remember this delicious 2-layer wonder??

Ingredients :

Method :

  • Mix the cocoa powder with a little milk, using a whisk,so as to avoid lumps.Keep aside.
  • Take all the ingredients, except the chopped nuts,in a heavy bottom pan and cook it on a medium flame, stirring constantly.
  • When the mix starts to thicken and leaves the sides of the pan, turn off the heat .
  • Spread about 2/3rd of the mix on a greased tray.(I like my chocolate layer to be nice and thick )
  • Mix the chocolate mix to the remaining mixture.Mix thoroughly and spread it on top of the milk layer.
  • Garnish with chopped pistachios.
  • Mark the squares-let it cool and then cut off the squares.
  • Sink your teeth in to one or two or three..and enjoy the yummmy chocolatey goodness.

Once again wish you all a very happy Rakshabandhan..Hope you enjoy the day and don’t forget to tell your sibling, how special they are to you.

When the energy Frog came visiting

Aadya’s class has a pet -The Energy Frog. And every week, one kid gets to take it home. Two weeks back,Aadi got to bring it home and our aim was to do energy conserving activities. This is what we did:

Image

We turned off all the lights that were not being used. We tried to keep the TV,laptop and iPads off for as long as possible.Image

Energy Frog kept Aadya company while she got her hair cut.

They played games instead of watching TV.ImageAnd finally here’s a picture of Aadya and the frog-They are setting up a magic show.

This was Ms.A’s first school project-here’s to many more!

Her biggest worry …

..is that she will never loose her baby teeth. She wants to eat hard things and wishes to send the tooth fairy a reminder.

Image

My biggest worry is that my baby is growing up too fast and I am not allowed to call her a baby anymore 🙂

I took this photo when we were on our way to the city for  our Citizenship Ceremony .She was so excited and sitting all prim and proper in her beautiful dress, looking all grown up,smiling indulgently at her little sister’s toddler-ese banter and my heart skipped a beat.. And it hit me again -God!I love her.. I love her more than my heart can contain…I love her, when I yell at her,I love her when she is all Ms.Attitude and shoots her mouth off…I love her when she ignores me..I love her when she reads my moods just by looking at my face..I love her when she acts like a true blue big sister..I love her when she acts like a spoiled brat..or like an angel..

The reason for this post..We’ve been fighting a lot lately..fighting as in arguing about little things..and then we make up only to argue again. She is growing up,she is learning new words and is getting more and more independent, but is still my little girl. When I try to tell her,I love her so much, after a fight..her response is “No,you love Nanya more” Hopefully, when she reads this, whenever that is..she will know that that wasn’t the case. I leave you with one of my favorite photos of us.Image

We were waiting for our cab to arrive and she was upset because she thought that Nanya didn’t love her enough..you know why?Because Nanya refused to hold her hand!! So,I was trying to console her and cheer her up and my dad took this picture… and I absolutely LOVE it.

Love my little heart with all my heart and then some..

Happy 2nd Birthday Ananya

Image

My little Princess turns 2 today… 2 years back,on this day,at 4:09PM,this little bundle entered the world. Her mummy was sleeping and daddy was waiting outside the OT to hear her little cries. She decided to make sure everyone was alert for her..within seconds, all the people in the OT were by her side, resuscitating her and making sure her APGARs were good. She was called the Little Indian Princess at the hospital-for the 4 days,we were there,EVERY DAY,the staff from the OT,came to check on us. Today she is our little PERSON- who says her thank yous and no thank yous.I still feel guilty, that she was alone, when she was born, but She makes sure,if she sees someone sitting alone, away from the group, she ALWAYS walks up to them and keeps them company…ALWAYS..That’s my little Sunshine for you. Love you my Nanya..Happyyy Birthday, baby girl.

Day 5,6,7…

..Were spent being sick..VERY sick. What I thought was just cold and flu, turned into a full blown Asthma attack and a very scary one too. I had to take time off work and spent the day at the doctors, getting doses of ventolin, through nebuliser and extra oxygen. The good thing was,it was a saturday and got away with just the doctor’s treatment room and not a hospital stay.SD dropped me off and stayed home with the kids and then came back to pick me up,when I was ready to go home.

SD banned the laptop and I spent the last 2 days,on the bed, couch sleeping, playing with yarn.Today he is at work.A friend took Aadi to the park and Anan was taking a nap.I was filled with a sudden burst of energy and decided to do the laundry, and vacuum the living room..And I did..and then ended up wheezing..:( not a good idea..Now,I am on the couch with my legs stretched and the laptop on my lap.

That’s Day 8 post for you.. Hope your weekend was better than mine:)

Day 4

And Anaan has generously shared her germs with me.Now I am feverish and have a sore throat..Oh! The silver lining in this cloud is that at least there is no school.I don’t hear Aadi complaining about the extra TV time. In other news,I have found a good doctor for Anan-one who is available when we need him. And it helps that he is easy on the eyes..I gushed to SD.."Omg! he is cute ..n our hands touched one time" To which he rudely pointed out that his, mine And SD’s,all three hands touched, when we were trying to hold Anan’s head steady..Whatever!!
Seriously, though,he takes the time to listen..and doesn’t just brush our concerns off.AND he gives lollipops to the girls..both of them..even when he just checked only one.
More later…
