    Last Saturday,Anan woke up before the rest of us…yes we were all sleeping in the same bed and please DON’T ask me how we all fit in the bed!LOL! So,I was saying,Anan woke up before the rest of us.And..wait for this..instead of waking up SD or me,she gently tapped her sister to wake her up. Her movement woke me up but I pretended to be asleep.So,she proceeded to wake up her sister,with patting and cuddling.Now they are both so grumpy when they wake up,so this was such a pleasant pleasant surprise.

    5 minutes later they were giggling.Then the monkey climbed out of bed and called out “Commmon Aadu,TV!” And after all that we’d seen,SD and I were totally OK with them watching TV first thing in the morning 🙂

    Speaking of “Aadu” -its Anan’s favorite word..Everything that takes place in her day,IS about Aadu. She bumps into the table and she says-“Aadu ‘urt me”..it doesn’t matter if Aadu is at school. The funniest was when we were out for a pram ride and a rain drop fell on her and her reaction..”ooh ooh mumma,Aadu!”LOL!!!

    And as for Aadu-well..Anan is her best friend,her sister,who gets on her nerves,but..but the Sun rises and sets around her.Two days back,I had to work the Tuesday shift and my friend Kal was going to watch Anan.When I told this to Aadi that morning..her face fell and the first thing that came out of her mouth was…”Ohh I must give her big hugs and big kisses..and tell her,that I am so proud of her for being brave.And I am going to tell her that even though we are sending her with Kal aunty,we still love her!!”

    And then today-it was so warm this afternoon,so we grabbed a pack of ice-cream and came home to share it. Anan finished her stick first and then came to me..asking for a taste.. when mine was finished..she went to her Aadi,who loves her ice-cream.But,she just laughed indulgently and let her have a lick!

    Love these little moments…:)

  • Almost spring…

    Its a beautiful day today,filled with warm sunshine. And what better day to share these birdies with you.

    The pattern for the birds came from here..I love love Lucy’s patterns. They are so fun to make and easy to follow.

    What do you think? A Little story about the new name 🙂 

    Now most of you must have guessed that the name is a blend of both my girls names…I tried various combinations..but Anadya had a nice ring to it.A lot of time,in a confused state,I’ve yelled out Anadya..when the girls are upto something funny.

    And then,Aunty Google sent another interesting tid-bit my way.I found out that Anadya is a Nigerian name and it means ‘Her father’s daughter’… and then there was no looking back..I couldn’t have picked another name 🙂 

    Anyway,so that’s the story behind the name..I am busy trying to get ready for a market in October.Yes!I want to try it again…fingers crossed this one is better than the previous ones. I’ll keep you posted.

  • Happy Rakshabandhan 2013

    Here’s wishing a very happy Rakshabandhan to all the brothers and sisters across the world.

     

    ‘Rakhi’ is a big deal in our household.When I was a kid, my sister and I used to tie ‘Rakhis’  to each other, along with all our cousins and ‘Rakhi’ brothers. When we grew up, we started tying the ‘rakhi’ to our dad.
    When my first daughter was born,we started this tradition in our home. I made two ‘rakhis’ and tied one(on her behalf) to hubby and the other to the Bal Krishna idol in our pooja room. A few years later,when her sister came along, I made them both tie ‘rakhis’ to their dad and to each other. It’s just a lovely celebration.  So,when Preethi asked me, if I wanted to do a craft or a recipe post for Rakshabandhan, I jumped at it.
    Every year, Rakhi making is a big part of the celebration.This year we started with :

    • A bunch of assorted ribbons
    • Glue
    • Assorted ornaments to decorate the ribbons(pompoms,buttons,etc.)

    And this is what we came up with :

    Can you guess which one was made by the very crafty 6 year old?

    Now for the sweet. Today, I share with you a recipe of my favorite Chocolate Burfi. Anyone else remember this delicious 2-layer wonder??

     

    Chocolate Burfi

    Ingredients :

    Method :

    • Mix the cocoa powder with a little milk,using a whisk,so as to avoid lumps.Keep aside.
    • Take all the ingredients,except the chopped nuts,in a heavy bottom pan and cook it on a medium flame,stirring constantly.
    • When the mix starts to thicken and leaves the sides of the pan,turn off the heat .
    • Spread about 2/3rd of the mix on a greased tray.(I like my chocolate layer to be nice and thick )
    • Mix the chocolate mix to the remaining mixture.Mix thoroughly and spread it on top of the milk layer.
    • Garnish with chopped pistachios.
    • Mark the squares-let it cool and then cut off the squares.
    • Sink your teeth in to one or two or three..and enjoy the yummmy chocolatey goodness.
