Weekly Menus

All my intentions of starting the year on the right foot were set aside due to Mowgli falling sick in the first week of New year.

But I started Week 2 with the right intention. I only set one intention for that week and that was to be organised. Sharing last week’s menu and coming week’s menu here in case anyone needs any inspiration.

I cook only once a day – usually at night. Lunch is either leftovers or toasties or eggs and toast . I find that if I leave it too late to start cooking , I lose all motivation to cook and then, there is only one option left and that is takeaway. Or else I am rushing to get meals on the table. But if the meals are ready, I am not stressed and can actually relax after finishing work.

But bulk cooking meals, though efficient and smart, doesn’t work in our house. The family either wants to try everything and as a result, there is not enough left for a complete meal and as they have already tried everything, they don’t want to eat it in the following days . Defeats the purpose of bulk-cooking to save time.

So, I tried a new strategy last week. I cooked and prepped each meal one night in advance. Here’s what I did :

Sunday Night : I cooked the Rajma curry while SP & I were watching a movie. I honestly can’t remember which movie.

Monday Night : I boiled the chicken for sandwiches on Wednesday and marinated chicken for the wraps for Tuesday night.

Tuesday Night : Cooked the chicken for the wraps and cooked the paneer curry for Thursday evening. Wednesday was a super hot day, so the sandwiches hit the right spot. Best part was not having to cook or worry about meals 2 nights in a row! Winning!

Friday night was a simple meal of yogurt and rice & for Saturday- I got a pre-marinated Tandoori Chicken from the local butchers and that wrapped up the week.

I feel very accomplished and motivated to stay organised for the coming week. I have goat curry simmering as I write this post. Below is the menu starting from tomorrow :

I’ll be sure to update if I stayed on track.

Trish xx

MrMowgli – update -16/1/21

Mr M is on a slow road to recovery. His appetite and energy levels are still quite low, but every now and again we see a shadow of our happy boy again.

He has started coming upstairs since last two days and the first thing he did after coming upstairs was check out if everything was the same.

This was him on day 3 of being sick.. at this stage he was getting progressively worse.
Demanding cuddles when he had a little burst of energy before settling down again

He had his follow up visit yesterday with his regular vet and she seemed happy with the way he is recovering. She did tell us that it can take 4-6 weeks for his to regain his full strength and character. He is still sleeping a lot but that’s alright as long as it’s helping him get better.

Smelling the air and getting ready to guard his backyard 😃
This was him snuggling up with MsAn while I oiled her hair today.

He is still on the staple diet of rice and chicken and I have started adding some veggies to it now. He is loving it. Now to slowly transition him back to dry food .

Last year ..

This time last year, we were in India – surrounded by family and old friends. It was our most awaited vacation and a well deserved break. Our days were filled with sleep-ins,good food, lots of socialising.. oh what would I give to be back there now .. or maybe not.. after all, no one wants to go through another 2020.

On Jan 8th, 2020 we took the girls to visit Siddhivinayak temple and show them my college. They were so excited. I think I was more excited than them.

My undergraduate classroom
My workstation in Chemistry lab

One of my professors is the Head of Department now and another is the Vice Principal. It was so nice to meet them. I was pleased beyond belief when they remembered my last name and asked me if I was visiting to secure admission for MsA. Again, just the sound of those words made me so happy. MsA is quite tall and could easily pass for a 15/16 year old. When I told them her age, they asked her come back in a couple of years 😊

Of course, no trip to Ruia is complete without a visit to the juice centre.

Next stop was Siddhivinayak Temple .. so many memories associated with this temple.

Loved the hustle bustle of Siddhivinayak. I love it how the girls hang on to each other in a new place ❤️

We did get charged double the price for flowers for the temple. My dad cracked up laughing when I told him how much we paid for flowers & told me that maybe leaving so much time between two visits wasn’t a good idea ..🙄 umm yes.. my dad & sister didn’t stop teasing me about it for days. All in good fun, though.

In all honesty, I can never have enough of these flowers …

I hope you enjoyed a trip down memory lane with me 😊

Trish xx

Friday feels

We are keeping a watch on a sick MrMowgli. He came home last night after spending a night at the vet hospital. He kept us on edge all day today with his symptoms going up and down all day.

So we decided to roast some corn, cook some sausages and quiches and watch a family movie. MsAn left the room on the pretence of taking Mowgli outside- you see we didn’t pick her movie suggestion .

Then, I dozed off .. slowly SP did too. MsA got frustrated and switched off the movie . I tried to get her to start it again but she stomped off saying – “ why? So you can fall asleep again” it sounds funny when I say it out loud. 🙄

Anyway, I woke up after a long nap and now am still groggy but not sleepy .. here’s hoping that tonight is peaceful and MrM is on the mend… fingers crossed.

More tomorrow

Trish xx

We have had a hectic day and half. Last night MrMowgli got quite sick and we had to rush him to emergency vets. We got back home after 1:30 AM . SP slept on the couch to keep an eye on him and spent most of today looking after him.

He started getting worse around midday as the effect of last nights meds wore off and after a quick phone consult with his usual vets,we were asked to bring him back in. We were worried about a potential blockage in his stomach and that he might need a surgery but tests and X-rays ruled that out. Hopefully the meds will kick in, he keeps his food in and is on the mend soon.

MsAn was the most worried about him and didn’t want to leave his side.. they both fell asleep in the car, snuggled up together.

Old photo but they are seen like this most of the time.

If you are reading this, send some healing vibes to MrMowgli .
