Craft Swap-1

I am so excited.I was a part of a handmade swap on Ravelry. And then, came my surprise India trip.I asked the group moderator and my swap partner,if it was alright if I posted my parcel, after I got back and they said yes.
I mailed my parcel on saturday morning. Then,we went grocery shopping and when we came back, there was something peeking out of the mail box ..and Lo!It was the parcel from my swap partner!
My first ever Swap gift..I am so excited.
Its a beautiful crochet hand-bag-its crochet shells,as you can tell from the pics. Thanks Battybp
I am dying to write about what I made for her..but I guess I will wait till she receives it.

Fishy Kimono

I Heart Babies and I heart Kimonos..and I heart babies wearing Kimonos.
A very good friend is due in October and getting together a few things for her baby..They don’t know what they are having yet,so I decided to stick to neutral colors.
I first saw this Kimono at Yarnydays and I fell in love with it.
This is yet another quick project, just right for instant gratification!

A Poncho for my Princess

Remember how I wrote about my love for Ponchos?I have always wanted to dress up my little girl in a Poncho.DSC02758

This yarn was a complete impluse buy.The bright colors were such a pick-me-up.When I first bought this combination,it reminded me of a beautiful silk Bandhani(tie-n-dye) Saree that my mom had in the same combination. So it was difficult for me to think one a different line.Naturally, the first project I tried was mittens, turqouise with pink dots..to mimic bandhani. But the yarn was too heavy for mittens and I ripped it off.

Next I tried a shrug and then a jacket,but nothing seemed right..ripped off.Finally,3 months and 3 rip-offs later,I gave myself a mental kick..and said,Why not a Poncho?And why not,indeed?So,Poncho it was.The yarn was quiet thick and twisted and called for a size 6mm hook.But,I liked the finish better with a smaller 4 mm hook.I am glad,I experimented.

for this project,I used-

Yarn- Panda Yarns Toto Kids

Amount- 3 balls of Royal,1 ball Fuchsia

Hook-4.0 mm

Pattern-The pattern can be found on Joann.com-Pattern no.70368AD

Variation-The only change I made was,I didn’t make the trim,as stated in the pattern.Instead,I threaded a strand of  Fuchsia,to break the Blue.:)

Comments- When my dad saw the pic of Aadi, wearing the Poncho,he said,I remind him so much of my mom..And how she used to keep making things for us girls, and how  glad he is that,I have her crafty genes 🙂

Endearing Girl Poncho

This was one of my quickest projects.Interstingly, when I first learnt how to crochet,my first ever project was a beautiful yellow and black poncho.I got full grades in craft work for that piece.
Coming to this particular piece-When I was knitting,Color-me-up for Aadi,a friend’s daughter had asked me in the cutest little girl voice,”Maushi, will you make one for me too?”[Maushi=aunt in marathi]
And I agreed. So,this little girl was turning 4 and I decided to make this poncho for her.

The pattern can be found here
My twist to it was to use two strands, one of each color for the fringe!
Need I say,the poncho was suitably gushed at 🙂

Pink baby jacket and hat.

A friend was not really happy with the baby sweaters, she found ,where she lived. So,I asked her ,if I could make one for her baby. She said, she wanted one in baby pink color and she wanted it to be a cardigan or front open style..So,I set about looking for patterns…and finally settled on
I used 4 ply Baby wool-soft to touch and easy to care for. It took me a little over 10 days to complete it..But,the end result, made me so happy.
The hats were so much fun to make and so quick too.I am making one for Pipette and I have one more ready,to sell.

First Post here

Pipette has been my inspiration, even before she was born. When I was pregnant, like most would-be-mothers,I decided that she should have something, exclusively hand-made by her mother. So,I started thinking..every Hindi movie, that I had watched growing up,had the pregnant woman, knitted a sweater for her baby-to-be.But,I didn’t want to knit..My grandma, was going to do that. So,I decided to make a blanket for her.Quick and easy, baby blankie. And I decided to crochet it.But,as the blanket, started taking shape,I loved the way it felt..and the way it looked and decided to go all the way and make an Afghan, that she could use, even when she got a little older.

Here’s the Afghan:

I used the wool from Baby Clouds.and the afghan does have a dreamy feel to it.

The reason for starting this blog is simple-

First,I want to keep a record of all my creations. And secondly,I am trying to establish,a small work-from home type of a business. So,this blog will also work as a display for my creations. So,if you know someone, who might like this, send them my way 🙂

Thanks for looking.
